Living Optics Unveils its Hyperspectral Imaging Camera Bringing Spectral Information to Computer Vision

Living Optics will be at SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco booth #5545 (Hall F).

San Francisco – January 25, 2024. Today, Living Optics Limited, a pioneer in computational imaging, unveils its latest offering, the Living Optics Camera. The product is engineered to integrate the capabilities of spectral imaging into computer vision, aiming to empower developers to explore and harness the advantages of Hyperspectral Imaging in their applications.

Living Optics’ launch marks the culmination of its extensive collaborations in diverse fields such as computer vision, agriculture, healthcare, and security. The aim of this release is to extend the accessibility of their cutting-edge technology to a broader range of users.

Hyperspectral imaging is a field notoriously difficult for those new to it and has long lacked the camera technology and software tooling that computer vision developers have grown accustomed to, leading to its under utilisation in many industries. Living Optics is tackling this problem by launching a developer-friendly camera capable of spectral imaging at video speeds. This comprehensive package is designed to simplify spectral imaging, making it more accessible and easier to use. This approach aims to lower the entry barriers and promote the widespread adoption of spectral imaging across various sectors.

Quotes

Robin Wang, CEO and Co-founder, explained the genesis of Living Optics’ technology, “Our journey began with a specific need – to capture ultrafast laser-plasma interactions at trillions of frames per second. When we discovered no existing camera could meet this demand, we were compelled to invent one. It was during this process that we realized our technology’s potential in hyperspectral imaging, leading us to focus on revealing the invisible. Surprisingly, we found that our cameras could solve many of the critical challenges in computer vision. We couldn’t help but start a company. We wanted the world to have access to our technology as soon as possible.”

Steve Chappell, CTO and Co-Founder of Living Optics, stated, “We are confident that our approach will bring new and enhanced applications in computer vision across many industries.  Our engagements to date with leading companies working on problems in remote monitoring, object identification, crop yields and more have demonstrated the effectiveness of the technology and we look forward to establishing more partnerships as we expand into the market.”
