Product Release: April 2025

Product Release: March 2025

What’s New?

We’ve been building on your feedback, and April has been no exception. This month, we’re excited to share the latest progress in our journey to bring you a more powerful user experience with a focus on managing your datasets. New things for you to try include:

  • Replay and examine your Living Optics Camera data files online using the cloud-based Camera tool.
  • Bring selected third party Hyperspectral data into our tools and workflows using our data converter.
  • Use our brand new Data exploration tool, allowing frame-by-frame spectral analysis and data annotation for the first time using the power of your Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin edge compute.

Release highlights

Data exploration tool

Version 1.0.0 – recommended for all data analysts on Jetson Linux (No MacOS support)

The data exploration tool unlocks easy data exploration, analysis and spectral labelling for the first time to the Living Optics ecosystem.

Full feature list:

Data Exploration
  • Browse .lo files via folder or thumbnail view.
  • Frame Explorer for visual and spectral inspection.
  • Navigate and extract frames from hyperspectral videos.
Spectral Tools
  • Assign/import white/black spectra for radiance-to-reflectance conversion.
  • Support for ASD and Ocean Optics spectral formats.
  • Toggle between radiance and reflectance views.
  • Interactive spectral plots for precise wavelength selection.
  • Import and compare to library spectra in similarity overlays.
Overlay Tools
  • NoneSingle BandFalse ColourPCASpectral Similarity (SAM/SID), Band Ratios (e.g., NDVI).
  • Spectral similarity targets: point, annotation, or library spectrum.
  • Overlay controls: opacity, sparse sampling toggle, reflectance toggle.
Annotations
  • Add annotations via:
    • Rectangle selection
    • Free draw tool
    • Auto-segmentation model
  • Edit annotations and attach metadata or custom fields (e.g., sugar content).
  • Save spectra from annotations for reuse or export.
  • Spectral Component Estimation using Gaussian Mixture Models to identify the number of distinct spectral signatures in a region of interest — helping users understand the spectral complexity and material diversity within their annotation.
Data Collections
  • Create, import, and export frame groups.
  • Organize frames into datasets for ML training or analysis.
  • View annotation summaries and spectral plots within collections, compare spectral data across multiple files.
Extras
  • Read your exported datasets with python, to develop data driven applications.
  • Tutorials on suggested workflows.
  • Example dataset to get started with the tool and data driven application development.
